Bespoke Wine Cellar in Stirling Otario

The Vision:

This project involved the design and construction of a bespoke wine cellar within a compact 9 ft x 6.5 ft space. Despite the modest footprint, the cellar needed to accommodate climate-controlled wine storage, space for a wine chiller, and a dedicated humidor.

The design direction was inspired by a set of reclaimed church doors. Their proportion and character influenced the overall feel of the room, guiding a balance between structure, warmth, and understated detail.

The goal was to create a cellar that felt intimate and purposeful rather than simply utilitarian.

The Materials & Execution:

Material selection was central to achieving both atmosphere and performance. Solid black cherry was chosen as the primary material, offering warmth, stability, and depth within the controlled environment. Black walnut was introduced through decorative accents and handles, providing contrast and refinement.

A Spanish cedar-lined humidor was incorporated to ensure appropriate humidity regulation for cigar storage, integrating seamlessly within the overall joinery.

Careful spatial planning maximised capacity while preserving circulation within the compact footprint. Climate control and chiller integration were designed into the layout from the outset, ensuring long-term performance without compromising the architectural integrity of the room.

The result is a compact yet highly considered cellar that balances material richness with technical precision.
