Merrill House- Custom Wine Cellar & Doors in Picton

The Vision

This was a high-end project with an ambitious six-week lead time and no established design concept at the outset. The brief required a refined, contemporary aesthetic alongside zoned, climate-controlled wine storage and significant capacity — all delivered within a compressed timeline.

Careful planning and disciplined execution were essential to meeting both the functional and aesthetic goals of the space.

The Materials & Execution

Material selection was key. White oak was chosen to harmonise with the purpose of the room, offering warmth and longevity. Rift-sawn white oak, with its clean, linear grain, provided a contemporary and consistent visual language throughout the space.

To meet the production schedule, we incorporated mitre-fold construction techniques, allowing machining and finishing to begin immediately. An integrated assembly system was designed into the build, significantly reducing final assembly and installation time without compromising precision.

Concealed lighting was introduced to add depth and subtle drama, while a substantial set of traditionally styled oak doors created a striking reveal upon entry.

Delivering this project on time and on budget required cohesive design engineering and a streamlined manufacturing approach, providing an end-to-end solution from concept development through installation.

If you are considering a similar project, we would be pleased to discuss how it might take shape in your own space.
